Photo frame makeover with colourful clay

Monday, January 30, 2017

Hi !
I wanted to gift something handmade to an awesome couple I love. I got the idea of photo frame with some clay makeover. For this project, I used play doh kind of clay.

I used all the colors in the package. It had red, blue, green, yellow, white & black. For the hearts on the frame, I used red clay. Rolled it into thin strings and started making a spiral which can be spotted in the lower part of picture below.

I glued that spiral on the frame. If you noticed, I used Fevicol...that's because I was in India while making it 😀😀😀!!

I saw this pretty knitted pattern using clay on Internet. Here's an easy tutorial video .

I was making normal clay spirals using white and black clay. But my lovely sister 😍 suggested to make spirals using both strings together. Thanks darling 💗.

Filled the big heart area with these pretty black and white spirals.

Next, I made pink and orange twisted strings to use them as borders for the big heart. For those who are wondering, I mixed red and yellow clay to make orange.... and red-white to make pink 😉. And we are done ...yay!! 😄

Crafting with DVDs and clay

Hello Folks!

A happy new year to all my readers 😊 ....I know its a lil late, we are already at the end of the month, but better late than never. Here's presenting you my first blog of the year 2017. Its a shiny piece of art and am loving it so much 😍. I hope you will too. So lets start.

I bought a round canvas. They are so fascinating. I had no clue what to make on it while buying. I went for a rectangular frame and I saw this....forgot about everything and bought the round frame 😀. I had in mind an intricate design in white over a blue background for this frame. But it didn't come out as planned. So I painted it black. After spending many days thinking what to put on it, I finally had a eureka moment. I decided to use DVD pieces and clay on it.

I started with a small sketch, preliminary idea.

Now I started pasting pieces of DVD's in a mosaic pattern. First I warmed up the DVD a little bit by placing it over the room heater. By doing this, the shiny film gets stuck on one side of the disk. The DVD is made of  two layers. You have to use a knife to crack it open. Once open, I cut the layer with shiny film on it in random way using scissors.

Now that the mosaic work is done, I started with the modeling clay, also called air dry clay. Its available in two colours: white and terracota. I had no white clay left, so I used terracota one. Then I painted it white after the clay was a little dry.

After making the desired shapes in clay and painting them in white, I glued them onto the canvas using a clear-dry-glue.

Now I made strings of the clay by rolling it over a table and pasted it on the canvas.

I had pretty difficult time painting the clay white once pasted on the canvas. So I would suggest you folks to use white clay in this scenario.

And here it is ....all finished !!! 😀😀😀
